Maybe the reason we hate each other so much is because, deep down, we hate ourselves.

It’s easier to go to war with strangers than to go to war with your own reflection. It’s easier to pick apart someone else’s choices than to sit with your own regrets. It’s easier to scream at the world than to face the silence inside.

We’ve convinced ourselves the problem is “out there” — the politicians, the neighbors, the people who don’t look, pray, or vote like us. But what if the real war has always been inside?

The truth is: We don’t like to face our emptiness. We don’t like to face our jealousy. We don’t like to face our lack of courage, or discipline, or love.

So we project it. We point it at strangers. We call it patriotism, or principle, or politics.

But it’s not. It’s avoidance.

Until we face ourselves, nothing changes. Because if you carry hate in your heart, it doesn’t matter who the enemy is — you will always find one.

Maybe real bravery isn’t fighting people on the outside. Maybe real bravery is sitting in the mirror and saying: “This is the person I need to conquer first.” The world will only heal when we do.
